About Us — Elm & Basalt
Our Story

We make one thing.
We make it well.

Elm & Basalt began with a simple frustration — the pile of damp kitchen towels no one wanted to look at. So we built one considered piece of natural stone to replace them.

The Beginning

It started with a wet counter.

We were tired of towels that stayed damp, silicone mats that pooled water, and dish racks that dominated the counter. So we went looking for a natural material that could quietly do the job — and found diatomaceous earth, a porous stone that pulls water in on contact.

After eighteen months of prototyping with a small stone mill in Northern California, we launched the ROLLET Stone Drying Mat. One product. Made properly.

What We Believe

Three principles.
That's it.

01

Natural materials only

Nothing synthetic, nothing coated, nothing throwaway. If it doesn't come from the earth, it doesn't come from us.

02

Made to last years

We design for years, not seasons. Every piece is built to be the last one you buy.

03

One thing, done well

We'll never make a hundred products. We'll make a handful, and we'll make each one properly.

The Material

Ancient stone.
Modern kitchen.

Diatomaceous earth is formed from the fossilized remains of ancient marine organisms. We source ours from a small mine in the American West, mill it with a family-owned partner in Napa, and finish each mat by hand in our California workshop.

The stone is 100% natural, food-safe, and can be gently sanded to refresh its surface indefinitely. Yours should last you a decade.

The Team

Small team.
Big obsession.

Three people, one workshop, one product. That's the whole company.
